PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS AND LOTS OF WIRES
The Avionics team tests, develops, and implements all vital electrical components to be integrated into RebelSat-1. Primarily, the Avionics team focuses on the development of RebelSat-1’s On-Board Computer (OBC), Battery Management System (BMS), GPS module, and sensors.
ON-BOARD COMPUTER (OBC)
The OBC is the brain of the entire Cubesat — it controls all aspects of hardware and communication systems. With the incredible work of our software engineers, the OBC will be able to communicate with all of RebelSat-1’s electronic modules and sensors.
BATTERY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (BMS)
The BMS comprises of three main components — two solar panels, six Li-ion 18650 batteries, and a charge controller system. RebelSat-1 will utilize two EnduroSat 3U solar panels. These modules experience implementation upon various missions every year and are currently present in NASA’s State of the Art Report — this proves their quintessential nature. In terms of the batteries, we will be installing six high-capacity Panasonic Li-ion 18650 batteries. With these, we will mimic the standard 2S3P Cubesat battery configuration to power all onboard hardware.
All Cubesats must have a means of orbital tracking, but a team cannot easily achieve this without a GPS. Therefore, as a result of the flight-readiness of the following components, RebelSat-1 will be integrating the Pumpkin GPRSM1 receiver and the Taoglas Internal GPS-GLONASS Antenna.
